April 23, 2018In a remarkable sale at the 25th anniversary Big Country Brahman Sale in Charters Towers, a three-year-old Brahman bull named Felix Manso emerged as the star, fetching an astounding $65,000. Bred by Tony, Joanne, and their family at Fenech Brahmans in Wowan, Queensland, this “superior grey” bull captivated buyers’ interest and witnessed strong bidding, drawing attention for its impressive attributes.
With a substantial turnout at the silver anniversary sale, the interest in Felix Manso surged following an earlier lot’s sale for $60,000. Weighing 1094kg, agents lauded the bull’s easygoing temperament, contributing to the fervent bidding war among prospective buyers.
The winning bid came from Matthew and Janelle McCamley of Lancefield Brahmans in Dululu, Queensland. Matthew, also the president of the Australian Brahman Breeders Association, expressed his pre-sale interest in Felix Manso, stating, “He was the standout of the sale; it was pretty clear.” Mr. McCamley praised the bull’s beef attributes, length, and overall correctness, emphasizing its exceptional qualities.
Vendor Tony Fenech expressed satisfaction with the sale, acknowledging the rarity of such exceptional bulls, remarking, “They don’t come along like him every day.” Australian Livestock Marketing agent Ken McCaffrey noted the sale’s success, surpassing expectations, with the average price witnessing a 2% increase from last year’s record-setting sale. The strong interest from various regions, particularly the Northern Territory, and local support highlighted the high expectations met during the event.
